Veronica's Names

A note on Veronica's names.

Her first name was chosen in honor of our dear friend Veronica Melnyk. Veronica now lives at Turvey Abbey in England, where she's known as Sister Johanna. She is the person we went to visit last May on our Ireland/England bicycle odyssey. There are a lot of negative qualities presented to young women as ideals--we want our Veronica to know that faithfulness, modesty, graciousness, prayerfulness, and godliness are what we hope she will aspire to. We pray that God will help us as parents model these things for her, and we are glad to know that our little girl can look to our sisters in Christ such as Veronica as examples.

Her middle name was chosen in honor of Jenny's grandmother. She was from Egypt, and Safiya was her first name. This was Jenny's "Taita" (or grandma), and she passed away in 2005. We wanted to remember her in the life of our sweet baby. If you watch the video below, you can hear how it's said.
