Hamilton in Action

In case anyone's been wondering what Hamilton's been up to now that Veronica is at the house . . . it's a lot of climbing, talking, and playing with some cool new toy cars. He's doing great as a big brother so far!

Safe at Home

All of Team Whitney is now safe at home. So much to be thankful for: God entrusting this little life to us . . . the support of our families . . . the tremendous staff at Northwestern Memorial . . . having a big brother like Hamilton for our sweet Veronica. We are thankful for God's amazing grace.

Day #2

Day #2 has involved a lot of this.

Veronica's Names

A note on Veronica's names.

Her first name was chosen in honor of our dear friend Veronica Melnyk. Veronica now lives at Turvey Abbey in England, where she's known as Sister Johanna. She is the person we went to visit last May on our Ireland/England bicycle odyssey. There are a lot of negative qualities presented to young women as ideals--we want our Veronica to know that faithfulness, modesty, graciousness, prayerfulness, and godliness are what we hope she will aspire to. We pray that God will help us as parents model these things for her, and we are glad to know that our little girl can look to our sisters in Christ such as Veronica as examples.

Her middle name was chosen in honor of Jenny's grandmother. She was from Egypt, and Safiya was her first name. This was Jenny's "Taita" (or grandma), and she passed away in 2005. We wanted to remember her in the life of our sweet baby. If you watch the video below, you can hear how it's said.

First Day and First Guests

Veronica had her first guests on her very first day with us. Aunts Mariam and Amira stopped by yesterday with Taita Murphy to meet our little girl. They brought some very nice new clothes for Veronica and tasty chocolates for us and the staff.

Thank you for stopping by, Murphy family!
